Whoever said the days are long but the years are short was spot on! My biggest lad is 7. Where did those years go? Following our annual tradition, I sat down with the biggest lad and did a 7th birthday interview.
My first born made me a mother. He challenges me as a parent. He is definitely my test child, the one I make mistakes with. I guess that’s the lot of the eldest child. They’re the first one you parent, and you can’t get everything right the first time. Sometimes I wonder if I expect too much of him. As the eldest of five kids I wonder if he’s growing up faster than he should. I love him dearly and the person he is becoming. I just hope I can be the parent he needs me to be.
Enough of my musings! Here’s the biggest lad’s 7th birthday interview.
How old are you? Seven.
What makes you happy? Everything that I like.
I asked him to give me an example and he replied, “ice-cream, toys, presents, Christmas, Jesus, God, all that stuff”.
What is your favourite animal? The King Cobra.
What is your favourite thing to eat? Chocolate.
What is your favourite thing to do? Go places and do fun things.
I asked him for an example. He told me “like go to Questacon and do the fun things at Questacon”.
What is your favourite TV show? Slug Terra.
What are you really good at? Umm, I’m really good at being kind and sharing.
What is your favourite movie? Boss Baby.
What is your favourite colour? Black.
What is your favourite song? Sunshine.
I definitely need to expose the boys to more music!
Who is your best friend? Griffin.
This answer really surprised me. While the biggest lad seems well liked by his year one peers and teachers at his new school, he’s yet to develop strong friendships.
What do you and Mummy do together? We cook together and we do interviews together.
What do you and Daddy do together? Me and Daddy go places and like get stuff that we need. And go shopping and get coffee, things like that.
What is your favourite sport? My favourite sport is soccer and football.
Where is your favourite place to go? My favourite place to go would probably be going to water parks because its so fun and you can bring water pistols and like shoot water pistols.
What is your favourite book? My favourite book is Roald Dahl books because they really inspire me with the words and stuff like that.
He’s just beginning to show an interest in ‘chapter books’. Roald Dahl has been popular so far, and apparently really inspiring!
What do you want to be when you grow up? I want to be a solider.
Then I asked him what he’d be if he couldn’t be a solider because his Mummy wouldn’t let him. He giggled and said ‘a police officer’.
I threw in an extra question this year.
What is important to you? Everything.
I asked him for an example, ‘you, trees, Daddy, god, Jesus, grass, everything that god made.
It warmed my heart that he said I was important to him!
